WoW – Interval Training

Interval training is a great way to punch up your workout routine.
I’ve had quite a few people ask me about interval training over the last couple of weeks, so I thought it would be a great addition to the Workout of the Week library.
Interval training is simply adding higher intensity intervals throughout your cardio workout.
For example if you walk, you could get warmed up for 3 to 5 minutes, then pick up your pace to something more challenging for 2 minutes, then come down to your normal pace for 2 to 3 minutes, then take it back up to the challenging pace for 2 minutes.
Interval training is a great way to break through plateaus, and to add interest to your routine. Remember, 30 minutes, 3 times per week is all it takes to get started and to start feeling better.
Want some extra added accountability? Why not post your workout plan to the comments section? I’ll be happy to give support and help you stay on track!
Check out the video below for some other interval ideas.

Jenn,
Hey! You know I love to do interval training in my routine. I liked your idea of the jumping jack combo.
I have one too I would like to share—
I do 6 count of front kicks, side kicks, back kicks and then knee raises. Then I run down the scale. I do 6 of each then 5, then 4…you get the point. In between that I do walking or light jogging.
Thanks Jenn for some more great ideas for interval training!
Sincerely,
Teresa

Hey there – came across your blog through a link to MizFit’s.
I use interval training a lot in my gym cardio to keep things interesting and keep my heart rate where I want it. Plus I’m also (re)starting up with the Couch-2-5k programme, which is classic interval training, at least for the first couple of weeks: walk briskly for 5min to warm up, jog/run for 60s, walk for 90s, then rinse and repeat the jog/run and the walking intervals 8 times before cooling down by walking briskly for another 5 minutes.
Look forward to reading more of your postings!
